The shortlist for the 2017 Hyundai Mercury Prize is here, and J Hus, Stormzy and Sampha (pictured) have all received nods for the prestigious award.
Nominated for ‘Gang Signs & Prayer’, ‘Common Sense’ and ‘Process’ respectively, the artists are joined by chart-toppers Ed Sheeran, The xx and Blossoms.
Selected by an independent panel judges, the Hyundai Mercury Prize for Album the Year acknowledges and celebrates the best the UK music scene has to fer.
, organisers explained: “What these artists have in common is an infectious pleasure in music making and an arresting sense urgency about the music they make. They delight in exploring musical possibilities and refusing to be pinned down by genre conventions.”
